Terran vs Zerg

Remember that your first unit is one of the most important unit you have, the marine. The marine can attack both air and ground giving you some advantage over the Zerg. If the Zerg is going mass hydras (like most Zerg do), I say go tanks and M@M. Tanks own hydralisks while the marine are back up for the tanks and will own the hydras to if they are stimmed. Bunkers own Zerg because the marines/firebats/ghosts get free hits without getting hurt until the bunker is killed. Since the Zerg are so weak, the bunker will slaughter all Zerg units, except guardians of course. As long as you place bunkers at choke points and strategic places near buildings or mineral lines to stop muta harassment, Zerg will have a hard time beating you.

Science Vessels (SV's) are going to be your best friends in this match up. Irradiate kills all Zerg units in one shot (except the ultralisk). Use irradiate on overlords, queens, lurkers, defilers and any other units you want. These are just some of my favorite ones to do it to since they're the most important units to a Zerg player. Always keep your SV's guarded so that scourges won't be able to get to them and kill them. Put them in the middle of some marines or near turrets. The easiest way to kill those damn guardians is to irradiate them. Irradiate works great on groups of units (mutalisks, hydralisks, and guardians) since any biological unit that touches the green cloud around the unit also gets hurt. Defense matrix can be a wonderful tool. Put this on tanks so they last longer against the waves of Zerg units. The best thing to do defense matrix to is the drop ship if you're planning a mass drop because now you will not lose a drop ship and all the units inside. This is a very good tactic on an island map.

Mutalisks can be an ugly opponent. Some people say marines suck against them, but put a few medics and stim into the equation and the marines should win. Bunkers own mutalisks, so you should always have a bunker by your mineral line so they can't hit your mineral line easily. Wraiths also own mutalisks (at least I think so) because if you have cloak, take out any nearby overlords and cloak. This will only work once or twice in a single game because the person should catch on and bring lots of overlords. This is why you come in with SV's and irradiate everything. If your playing Brood War, always have 4-5 valkaries on hand. They will own mutalisks. They are also good at killing overlords. Goliath's are good to because of their range and amount of damage they give in each shot.

If they come in with ultralisks, then I would say this will be a hard battle. Ultralisks are usually sent in with mass zerglings/cracklings to back them up. They are only used to soak up damage from your tanks and marines. I think the best thing to do is irradiate the ultralisk and defense matrix the first unit it attacks. This could be kind of hard because if they attack a marine you might miss the marine and hit the ultra with the defense matrix. This will be a very bad thing for you. So you see, to do this you must be quick and know how to micro some. You should also have wraiths somewhere for defense right, send them all in to attack the ultras only. Then maybe the lings or whatever else they may have to attack with. Also, if you ultras, you should expect dark swarm to follow.

Terran vs Protoss

This can be an easy match if you know what your doing. A lot of people seem to go mass goons. I think goons are a little too strong, but can be overcome. Tanks do a lot of damage to them and splash damage too. Tanks are almost all you need to defeat goons. SV's have emp and everyone knows how bad this owns Protoss in general. Do EPM to a group of goons and your tanks will kill them even faster with less loses on your side. If their shields are gone because of EPM, they will die in one shot to a siege tank (I think) instead of 2 when they have their shields. Ghost's are very good units because they have lockdown. Lockdown traps them, or any mechanical unit for quit a long time allowing you to deal damage to it while it just its there. Last, but not least, firebats hold there own against goons with some medic support. Stim them, send them in, and you have some warm blue goo ready to go! If you mix these units together, you should be able to stop those goons in their tracks. If you micro your units, you will have less casualties and might have a big enough force to counter strike after they attack. I have had people say I'm dumb for saying firebats hold there own against goons, but I have seen firebats with medic support own some goons. The enemy also had more goons than I had firebats. Because the goons are so big, the firebats deal full damage. I'm not sure what their full damage amount is, but I know it's a lot.

Templars can level your entire army of infantry in 1 or 2 storms. This costs you a lot of time and money and cost them 75-150 mana that will regenerate soon. What do you do about this you ask? I'd say keep all your forces behind at least 2 tanks in siege mode so they can kill any oncoming templars or you could go heavy metal so your casualties are smaller. You can irradiate the templars with SV's. But the thing is, you have to get the templar before it's in range or close to being in range of your units because irradiate doesn't kill them right away and they could just keep going and get off a few storms before they die. Heavy metal is probably the best thing you can do in this match-up. Goliath's, vultures, tanks, and maybe some wraiths. SV's are a must in this match-up since EMP gives them half there health and they need the extra health to beat the mass number of units you should have compared to the Protoss.

A problem with Brood War is that dark templars seems to be a fan favorite amongst the Protoss players along with corsair's. Both these new units just make the Protoss just that much stronger. The dark templar is permanently cloaked unit and kills any infantry in one clean swipe of their blade. These cloaked assassins can lay waist to your infantry if you don't pay attention. You need detection early and lots of it. Protoss players love to do a DT drop on your mineral line. This means you need turrets placed just far enough apart so you have detection all over your base to stop any DT drops. You should have a bunker with 1-2 turrets next to it and you might or might not want a tank near by. It would be good for a reaver drop, but not a DT drop since they are melee units and you would kill your own SCV's in the process of killing them with splash damage.

Terran vs Terran

This is also a fun match up since you both have the same strengths and weaknesses. The only thing you can do in this match up is perform your strat better and faster than the one your opponent is doing. If your opponent is going mass infantry, go heavy metal and mow them right over. If they are going heavy metal, I would say go heavy metal also and get some ghosts to lock down tanks or goliath's. If they turtle up like most all Terran players do. I would either do some kind of tank push to take out their wall-in. You could also do a drop. This might be the easy way, but if you fail on your first drop, your next drop could be kind of hard since they will be expecting it. Then you might as well do a tank push on their wall-in.
